Design Perspective - Francie Hargrove

I was introduced to this very talented lady by another talent lady, Lisa Mende.  When my husband and I took our trip to Highlands this summer.  I contacted Lisa and asked if she would share her favorite haunts in the area with me.  She graciously agreed and Francie Hargrove's shop in Cashiers was on the top of her list!

Although I was not able to actual go inside her amazing shop.  (It was Sunday when we passed through and it was closed.)  I came home and found this eye candy on her website.  I then got busy with kids home from camp, back to school, design jobs, and yada yada yada (still love that episode) here we are at the beginning of Fall.

But now that Fall has arrived, it reminded me of Ms. Hargrove's style.  As you can see it has a very cozy "Fall like" feel much like the entire feeling of interior design in that area.  The Old Edward's Inn was very similar to these photos.
So, given all this, I thought it would be fun to do a new series called "Falling Into Fall." Where I pull together easy ways to add a shot of "Fall" to your life.  I think it's fun to pull in small doses of this style for the Fall and Winter months.  So, over the next couple of months, I'll show you some quick tricks to do just that.  I hope you like it.  In the meantime, here are a few more inspirational images from the talented Ms. Hargrove.

Happy Hump day. M.

Design Perspective - Pursley Dixon Architecture

This Charlotte, North Caroline architectural firm has one of the most impressive portfolios I've seen in awhile.

I had a hard time pulling myself away from these images.

Just look at the marble detail on this island.

Notice the ceiling in this bathroom - not to mention the full length mirrors and the marble/nickel sinks layered in front of the mirrors.

Such a fabulous use of a narrow space.

Talk about bringing it to the laundry room!  Pairing a galvanized tub with a decadent tub faucet and floor to ceiling subway tiles - totally divine.

Look at the wall to wall windows in that living space!  If I had to live on a farm, this would be the ideal version of it for me.

This image really intrigued me.  The main kitchen wall is recessed into an alcove that has then been framed with thick trim.  So clean, and walking a tight rope between modern and traditional.  Just adore it.

I realize this is not part of the architectural elements of the space, but I just love those skirted benches  with that enormous island.  Totally good stuff.

Another interesting image - the architecture here is so breathtaking.  Not a stitch of furniture needed to make this work!

OK, I could go on and on with this one, but rather than copying their entire portfolio, click over to their website and check out all the offerings - Pursley Dixon Architecture.

Happy Monday! M.

Design Perspective - Ashely Goforth Design

I recently had a local interior designer (who shall remain anonymous) ask me why I feature other interior designers on my blog.  "Aren't you highlighting their work and sending potential clients to them?"

After a moment of awkward silence, I stated the obvious - There are tons of talented interior designers out there, and you can gain lots of inspiration from their work.  Even the smallest of details can be interpreted in your own space with stunning results.  So, if any of you are wondering why I feature other designers - The goal is to give you something to think about!  Some inspiration that hopefully can be used in your own space!  So, with that . . . here's my favorite new interior designer . . .

Ashley Goforth

Based on what I've read about Ashley, she has always had an amazing eye for interior design and enjoyed various interior design related projects for her entire adult life.  Here is just a small taste of her work.

This makes me miss the 1980's wall of mirrors I removed from the living room in my previous house (and I NEVER thought I would ever say that!).  Also, I'm working with a client as we speak who still has them in her dining room - so here's a bit of inspiration for that project!

A different angle of the same space.  I love layering a mirror on the wall of mirrors and how the abstract artwork reflects off the mirror to look like a pair.  Quite fabulous.

This is the other side of the same room with the mirrored wall (if you go back up you can see the TV in the reflection of the mirror).  Initially, I thought this was a formal living room, but it's not.  Instead, it's a beautiful family room.  Love the abstracts with the portrait lights flanking the TV.  You know it's difficult at times to make a TV wall look interesting.  Also, love the idea of incorporating some greenery into the space with the over scaled planters on either side of the mirrored console (which is a nice repeater of the mirrored wall).

This soothing image just makes me stop dead in my tracks.  I love everything about it.  The artwork, the painted brick, the chairs, the styling.  Love. It. All.

What a nice change from white marble on marble.  The black accents really speak to me - not to mention the large wall of windows.

OK, I love this image.  Did you notice the knee brackets in the dark stain finish - gives the feeling of rustic beams but for a fraction of the price.  Such a simple addition to the space, but adds so much architectural interest.  Very clever.

Another view of the same kitchen.

You would not believe how many deer mounts I work with in the rooms I design!  This space is such a refreshing modern take.  By limiting the artwork to only the mount, then adding the rich wall color, she has created a very modern sleek space.    Oh so good.

Adore the tub and shower placement in this master bathroom.  Really great.

Question - would you trust your decorator if she suggested a black wallpaper in your powder room?  Talk about some major drama!  The contrast of the wallpaper and the marble surround is a total WOW for me.

Here are a few examples of offices.  I must say, Ashley's paint choices are what really make these spaces go from a "just ok" to "totally fab."  Love this color (notice she painted the crown molding the same color but left the windows a lighter trim color.

Another great paint choice, with the distressed wood built ins and the beams - oh so yummy!

Shout Out to Opal

I wanted to give a shout out of thanks to Opal Design Group for featuring my kitchen makeover on their blog this week.  Such a nice surprise to see my kitchen when I popped over!

This design team with offices in Utah and Oregon was founded by Jana Romney and Jen Adair.   These cute girls have truly got it going on.  If you have not checked out their blog, it is a great resource.  What I love about their blog and what I think makes it different from most are all the fabulous videos they've included on different pages.   It feels so much more interactive - like they are talking to you!  And there is some great information packed into those videos like - hanging curtains the right way, mood lighting and their take on down pillows (which I totally agree).

Also, if you sign up to receive their newsletter they will also send you three of their favorite paint schedules as well as gallery wall templates.  If you have a minute, go check them out!  M.

Art In The Garden - James Farmer

About a month ago, I was near Auburn for a guest bedroom installation.  After finishing, I managed to grab some lunch, and I snagged a copy of a local flower magazine.  The entire magazine was great, but what really caught my eye was a full page ad for Art in the Garden at Auburn University featuring none other than James Farmer.
Are you familiar with James Farmer?  He is considered a Southern lifestyle expert - that includes all things related to entertaining and styling.  The guy's amazing.

Well, he's coming to Auburn Saturday, April 14th for an evening of sheer bliss.  From what I can gather, he will be creating flower arrangements and chatting it up with guests the entire evening.  There will be a seated dinner and lots of other loveliness.  The proceeds go to supporting the Gardens in the area.  The sad news for is is that we are going to be out of town.  So, if any of you do decide to go, I would love a full report!!

Who knows, he may even be signing copies of his most recent book.
Here is information on getting tickets for the evening - Art in the Garden with James Farmer

PS: I'm still digging out from my break.  Why do breaks have to be this way!? M.

Design Perspective - Jenny Wolf Interiors

The oh so talented Jenny Wolf - a New York based interior designer whose sense of style is a mixture of cottage, chic, modern, with a smidge of european flare.  All coming together in one amazing libation.

Just look at this kitchen - a mirror over the sink!  This does not feel like a newly created design; but rather, a kitchen that has evolved over time.  With necessary items that have been collected from all over the globe.

When I see this kitchen, I think, "this is the kitchen of a great cook and the foundation of a great dinner party."

In many of her projects, her style feels like a cozy cottage.  Such a difficult style to obtain in new design.

Then her designs have a bit of twist and feel more like a modern fresh country chic. (yes, I just made that up, but it totally fits!)

Then it turns completely city chic. . .

Loving the tribal rug and those "x" stools.

For me, a truly great designer is one who cannot be identified from their work.

Their "stamp" so to speak is not on the spaces they complete.  Each room looks like the homeowners' own style - unique and personal.  That is true talent.

PS: I am signing off a bit early this week.  I'm taking a much needed break with some girl friends to the beach!  I'm also leaving the whole shebang with the hubby (please say a little prayer for him - which for suspense sake, I will share with you later).  I hope you all have a marvelous weekend! M.

Latest Obsession

Lately, I've been obsessed with Joseph Frank fabrics.  Joseph was an Austrian born architect, artist, and designer who adopted Swedish citizenship in the latter half of his life.  The man was revolutionary.  What I find so interesting is that his work is still shaping and affecting the trends we see today in design.  In addition to all his accomplishments, Joseph designed some of the most stunning fabrics.

Like Fortuny, there are so many knock offs of his beautiful fabrics that it's sometimes difficult to determine if you are looking at an original design or not.  This is an original.

I love the use of this bold fabric in a very confined way.  I also love the idea of pairing it with some lush fabrics like the velvet in a rich color.  By keeping the rest of the fabrics in a similar color, the roman shades become a feature in the room.
These pillows would look amazing in a totally neutral space, so they become the focal point.

So cheery in a breakfast room.  It also feels very current when you pair it with the beaded chandy.  Love.

Shower curtain in a child's bathroom.

He also created an entire collection of wallpapers, but that's an entirely separate post!

In this example, the idea is to layer tons of pattern.  This creates a very modern eclectic feel to the space.

Hope your week is off to a wonderful start.  M.
